I have a small painting that I have to hang in my dining room and I was thinking about using a carved wood shelf, but I wanted to give it a little more body. The shelves are made of a combination of wood, bone, and wood. The wood is then filled with paint and then stained. The finished product has a nice, dark look to it which I think would be ideal for a painted piece of artwork.

The carving work is really easy. Just use a saw and a straight edge blade and then sand it smooth. Not sure how long it will take you to get all the paint out of the wood though. I’d recommend trying to get it done in a weekend, or else you’ll end up with sandpaper damage on the frame.

So that’s what I think about this wood shelf. It’s pretty and a nice look, but it’s pretty easy to sand and glue back in. I think the only real problem I see with the wood shelf is that I think it would look a little bit bland if it was painted, but I’m not sure. I’d guess that it would just look like an ordinary wood shelf that has been painted.
