The first and best type of wood that you can use for you carving is the hardwood. I know it sounds like a strange thing to say, but hardwood is the only wood that can be carved to a very fine point. The harder the wood is, the finer it will be.

It’s not a perfect analogy because hard wood is a very dense substance. It takes a lot of energy to carve it. And the more you carve it, the more you get out of it. Hardwood is also naturally brittle. That’s why you have to be careful not to break the surface of the wood or it will break.
The hardest substance on earth is wood. But that doesn’t stop people from trying to make it into a nice, soft object. It’s hard to tell if someone’s trying to make a nice, soft object out of an object that’s hard, because you can’t see through it.
If a person has the patience to look at the surface of a piece of wood and try to see through it, that person will usually be successful. To see through a surface of wood is like having a magnifying glass. If you have a magnifying glass, you can see through a surface of wood. But you cant really see through soft objects, like the wood of a piece of furniture. And so it is with wood.
I’m really glad that somebody is trying to make a nice, soft object out of a hard, black piece of wood. Because that is a great concept. As someone who loves to carve wood, but is not one for the fancy. I’m totally going to have to invest in one of those magnifying glasses. Because even though the wood is hard, it still looks pretty soft.
