I’ve carved these wooden statues of the Greek goddesses from my childhood and I can’t wait to start carving more.
Some of them are the work of the classic sculptor John Deere, but others are carved by hand. Most of the statues are made out of solid wood, but some are carved from the same hardwood that is on a lot of the interior walls of our homes. They are a wonderful, whimsical addition to any room and are well worth the time and effort.
There are many kinds of statues out there. Some are sculpted from wood, some are carved from stone, some are carved from clay, some are carved from metal. To me, carving a statue from wood is a little bit like carving a wooden canoe out of a solid log. It’s a big, bulky thing with lots of details and a lot of hand-eye coordination. It’s much more labor-intensive and it takes longer to carve than a wooden canoe.
It’s not a great idea to paint your own kitchen walls because your kitchen is full of them, but I do think that you should try and paint something else a bit more solid. The problem is that all of these great ideas are for the most part, useless. Wood carving statues, because they’re not made of wood, are inherently difficult. They can’t be painted. They can’t be painted with paint. They can’t be painted with a brush. There are just no tools to use them with, and there’s no way to even see that they’re made of wood.
