When I was a kid, I often had to be in kindergarten three times a week. Even more than that, I had to be in school on a regular basis. After a few years, I learned to take advantage of my parent’s absence and spend the day doing what I loved. This included playing with my very own wooden easter bunny.
My parents wanted me to have a wood-trimmed easter bunny, so I had all the parts (wood, plastic, and paper) cut to size and built them up. I don’t know where I got the idea that they were trying to teach me anything, but it happened to be the first time in my life that I had really sat down and thought about the concept of the day. I was also the only one who had actually made and cut the pieces.
This easter bunny is the result of a collaboration between myself and my childhood friend, and it was the first time I thought about my day like that. I’m only two months removed from having my own kids (I hope), so this easter bunny was the first time I thought about what I needed to do to make sure my kids would grow up in a world where they have a life that doesn’t feel like a day in the woods.
It’s not like I’m going to make a life for my kids in a day in the woods, but I guess I could make a life for my kids that doesn’t feel like a day in the woods, and that’s all that matters. The easter bunny is made from a combination of wooden scraps and scraps of paper and a plastic bag. I think it works quite well.
