One of my favorite things to do in the fall, is to walk through a forest or a woodland, and I love the scent and color of pine trees. I also love to bring in leaves on the outside of the home to add a bit of that woodland theme to my yard.
Not surprisingly, the woodland theme is a perfect fit for the home I’m building in Northern California. I love the forest-y feel of the surrounding areas and I’ve decided on a very simple woodland theme for the home, and the first thing I did was to purchase pine trees.
Pines are a great all season landscape material because they can last up to a decade without losing their shape or color. They’re also highly resistant to insects and rot, which makes them perfect for a home that will probably survive in the middle of the woods for a few years. If you want to keep your backyard from looking like a woodland preserve (or a tropical paradise), you’ll need to look for a different type of pine tree.
Pines can grow in any type of soil. And when you choose a style and color combination that will be resistant to insects, look for a type that doesn’t burn easily. A red pine can help control fire ants, and a yellow pine will keep the mosquitoes at bay.
This is one of those trees that you’ll need to plant in the spring, but because this tree will not live in the backyard, you will need to get it as close to the house as possible so that it has a chance to survive. The tree shown here was purchased for $2,900 from a nursery in New Mexico and the tree shown here is probably the closest you can get to the real deal.
A nursery in New Mexico is a great source for a tree with that characteristic. That would make this a great tree for a nursery. But it doesn’t take too much planning to make the tree look like it just came out of the nursery, so if you’re in a hurry you can get it from your local nursery, even if it’s not the exact model.
The best way to get a tree with the right characteristics is to do a little planning and shopping, to get the size you want, and then to get the ones you like the best. The best example of this is an enormous tree of a variety that had no name. The nurseryman who named the tree was a very successful salesman who wanted to make a living at the most expensive sales price possible. They got this tree from the nursery in New Mexico for a very reasonable price.
